The Lydster, Part 36: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Today's Lydia's 3rd birthday! Yet I have pictures from 2005. The best-laid plans...

Friend TFox says:
She's a tall drink of water, as my mom would have said. You'll have to start screening boyfriends before you know it! :)
What about a link to other famous folks born on her B-Day?

OK, here it is Who do we find?Poets, such as A. E. Housman (1859) and Robert Frost (1874)Other writers such as Joseph Campbell (1904), Tennessee Williams (1911), Erica Jong, (1942), and Bob Woodward (1943)Musical folks such as Rufus Thomas (1917), Diana Ross (1944), Steven Tyler of Aerosmith (1948), and Teddy Pendergrass (1950)
Performers such as Strother Martin (1919), Bob Elliott of Bob & Ray (1923), Leonard Nimoy (1931), Alan Arkin (1934), James Caan (1940), Vicki Lawrence (1949), Martin Short and Ernest Thomas (both 1950, same as Teddy Pendergrass), Jennifer Gray (1960), and T.R. Knight of Grey's Anatomy (1973)Athletes such as Marcus Allen, football (1960, same as Jennifer Gray) and John Stockton, basketball (1962)But I was most interested to note that her birthday coincided with women of note:
Sandra Day O'Connor, former U.S. Supreme Court Justice (1930)
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House (1940, exactly the same age as James Caan!)
Elaine Chao, U.S. Secretary of Labor (1953)So, what does she want to do when she gets older? I'll be fascinated to find out.

Final JEOPARDY!, 3/13/07:
According to the Mayo Clinic, allergies to these are the USA's most common cause of life-threatening allergic reaction.
All three contestants got it right.
The correct response: What are peanuts? I knew that, actually.

Rog,
Your blog is a gift to Lydia. I have read parenting stuff that suggest each year we write a letter to our child. I can't say I have done it but I do try to write in a journal at least quarterly about the joys K has brought us.

A friend of mine said the terrible 2's is more a boy thing and that for girls 3 is harder. I have to say....like clock work...just a few weeks before K's 3 year birthday we did infact notice a period of rebellion and stubbornness. It was short-lived but at the time I thought - oh my gosh my child is developing a not so pleasant personality. I think she was just coming into her own and frankly the stress of a preschool transition was hard for her. I am not sure when this will happen for Lydia but I think K needed a few weeks to really settle in.

Day care did a good thing and had one of the toddler teachers go with the 5 girls that all went to the preschool together. Sounds great but preschool ratio is different and k needed time to adjust to the larger class size. Both her teacher and teachers aid are certified elementary school teachers and they are much more hands off with the kids. That was an adjustment for me. Plus, school age kids are in the room late in the day and I've noticed some new words and modeling that makes me miss the innocence of ages 1 and 2. On the other hand, the reasoning reflected in new sentences and observation skills etc are a wonder every day. K is staying dry at night and just tons of fun. Anyway I hope you guys enjoy the end of two and the beginning of 3. We did have a few months that were transitional....

I don't have any parenting questions but would love support and validation from other parents that don't want to expose their kids to places like chucky cheese and over extravagant birthday parties. Let here it for back yard parties and simple games.

Love,
DD

Happy Birthday Lydia!

(And for the record, my wife got Final Jeopardy correct that evening, too. I guessed shell-fish.)

Happy Birthday, Lydia! It's always nice to see her make an appearance here.

I keep forgetting to e-mail you a question. I'll send one today, I promise.

I am excited by the Leonard Nimoy connection. Maybe she will want to be a Vulcan when she grows up.

Just think: when her first date comes to pick her up, you can amuse them both with all these blogs of her early years!

Lydia the Vulcan has a nice ring to it...

Happy B-Day to the little one, she is adorable. I need to get around to posting pics of my baby bro (18 months now...time does fly). Too bad my Dad doesn't read blogs, you guys would have a LOT in common.

What are Elton John and Bernie Taupin?

Whoops, wrong question!

Also, that photo of Lydia at the piano is almost unbearably adorable.

DD- Thanks.

Scott-If Nigel had had peanut allergies, trust me: you would have known.

Greg-Thanks. Got your question. No, it's not stupid. Will answer in the next two days.

GP and Logan-She probably IS a Vulcan-in-training.

Logan-Glad you wrote. Missed you.

Eddie-Amuse or embarrass. I'm guessing the latter.

Tom-OK, I admit it, yes, she is.
