Once upon a time, probably in the early 1990s, I made a mixed tape of songs that were rooted in the Bible. These were some of them, mostly from the Old Testament. I used Byrds rather than Collins and Collins rather than Cohen, but the rest were the same. Yes, the McFerrin video is weird; just listen to the music.
Our Prayer - SMiLE by Mok
Rock Steady by Sting
Desmond Dekker - The Israelites
Leonard Cohen - Story of Isaac
The Hooters - All You Zombies
Turn, Turn, Turn -Judy Collins with Pete Seeger
BOBBY McFERRIN - The 23rd Psalm - THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
MELODIANS "RIVERS OF BABYLON" PSALM 137:1
Delta Rhythm Boys - Dry Bones
ROG
1994: the non-crossover #1s, AC and RB

Catching up a few of your posts this morning... As a blogger don't you hate when some clown gets all excited about some small detail buried in a post? Like it was a matter of life and death? Well, right now, I am that clown.
It's about your collection of Old Testament inspired music. Desmond Dekker's The Israelites is indisputably one of the top ten greatest pieces of music ever created by western civilization. But really, it's not about religion or history, it's about dire poverty very much in the here and now. Check out the lyrics:

The word "Israelite" is (was?) used in the islands to refer to very poor people, presumably because they wandered about so much. That,
of course, is your Old Testament connection, but it's pretty thin.
Some of the lines in that song... man...
